Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Ricardo account. Even if your password is compromised, 2FA reliably protects your account.
Activating 2FA is optional, but strongly recommended.
📱 Activating 2FA via the Ricardo app (push notifications)
2FA push notifications send a confirmation request to the Ricardo app on your mobile device to verify your login.
🛠️ Steps to activate:
- Install the latest version of the Ricardo app on your mobile device.
- Open the app settings and select “Two-factor authentication”.
- Choose “Push notifications” and follow the on-screen instructions.
🖥️ Activating 2FA on desktop (using an authenticator app)
📱 Login using a mobile device:
- Log in to your Ricardo account on a desktop computer.
- Go to “My account” → “Two-factor authentication” → “Authenticator app” and activate the feature.
- Scan the displayed QR code using your authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator).
- Enter the generated code and confirm.
💻 Login without a mobile device:
- Install an authenticator extension in your browser (e.g. for Chrome).
- Log in to your Ricardo account.
- Go to “My account” → “Two-factor authentication” → “Authenticator app” and activate the feature.
- Scan the QR code with the extension and enter the generated code.
❗ Troubleshooting issues with 2FA
📱 Didn’t receive a push notification?
- Check your smartphone settings to make sure push notifications for the Ricardo app are enabled.
- Disable any scheduled notification summaries.
- Make sure you have the registered device with you.
- You don’t need to be logged into the app to receive notifications.
- Wait up to 5 minutes and try again.
- If the app was reinstalled, 2FA must be set up again.

❓ How can I deactivate 2FA?
Deactivate push notifications (Ricardo app):
Open the Ricardo app, go to settings → “Two-factor authentication” and select “Deactivate push notifications”.
Reset 2FA via your account:
Log in to your Ricardo account on a desktop computer. Go to “My account” → “Two-factor authentication” and deactivate 2FA by switching the toggle to the left.
